Dholai by-polls set for November 13 as Dhrubajyoti Purakayastha files nomination

Dhrubajyoti Purakayastha, the Congress candidate for the Dholai constituency, officially filed his nomination for the upcoming assembly by-polls in Assam. The nomination was submitted at the District Commissioner’s office in Cachar, with Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel confirming that Purakayastha was the sole candidate to file his papers on the day.

The by-polls are scheduled for November 13, with the counting of votes on November 23. The last day to file nominations is October 25, followed by scrutiny on October 28, and candidates can withdraw their nominations by October 30.

Purakayastha’s nomination was backed by a strong show of support from party leaders and supporters, including Assam Congress president Bhupen Kumar Borah and Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia. Borah criticised the ruling BJP for failing to deliver on promises to the people of Barak Valley, particularly those benefiting tea garden workers, and expressed confidence in the Congress’ chances of winning Dholai by a large margin. The by-polls will be held across five constituencies, including Dholai, which was previously represented by Lok Sabha MP and former Assam minister Parimal Suklabaidya.
