The Directorate General of Training (DGT), under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Pilani Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Society (PIEDS) of BITS Pilani to boost entrepreneurship and skilling among students of National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs). The collaboration focuses on fostering innovation, creating start-up opportunities, and aligning skill training with industry needs.
The partnership introduces two key programs: the Innovation Challenge and the Open Incubation Program. The Innovation Challenge targets NSTI trainees and alumni, with special provisions for women to bridge the gender gap in innovation. The Open Incubation Program, a six-month grant-based initiative, offers ideation, incubation, mentorship, workshops, and funding to help participants transform their ideas into scalable ventures.
The Guwahati market, a hub for aspiring entrepreneurs in Northeast India, is poised to benefit significantly from this initiative. The region’s growing demand for skilled professionals in technology and green innovation aligns with the program’s goals, offering opportunities for local youth to launch start-ups and access mentorship under the partnership. DGT Director General Trishaljit Sethi remarked, “This partnership bridges the gap between education and industry, fostering a future-ready workforce.” Prof. Arya Kumar of BITS Pilani highlighted its potential to drive employment and wealth creation.
