The popular city of India, Varanasi also known as Kashi witnessed a grand celebration of ‘Dev Deepawali’ on Monday. This cultural event is being celebrated for the past 100 years but because of Prime Minister Narendra Modi the celebration has attracted foreigners this time.
Diplomats from more than 70 nations attended the celebration and called it an ‘incredible one’.
The Ambassador of the European Union(EU) Herve Delphin, who attended the event in Varanasi, told it was an experience like no other. “I witnessed this incredible sound and light show between modernity and tradition. It is an experience like no other. We really enjoyed it,” he told ANI.
After witnessing the ‘Dev Deepawali’ in Varanasi, Latvia, Deputy Chief of Mission, Marks Deitons told he would like to come back again to attend the festival. “I am struck by the beauty of the rituals, like how the flames were floating in the waters…I want to come back again,” he said.
Millions of diyas were lighten up as a part of the celebration across all the 85 ghats of Varanasi. Several cultural performances were also done at the place. The organisers also put up a jubilant display of crackers that filled the night sky of Varanasi.
