Demow College celebrates 56 glorious years with honours and reflections

On Saturday, the 56th anniversary of Demow College’s founding was held on campus. The program began as planned with the raising of the flag, and then Dr. Krishna Jyoti Handique, the principal of Demow College, presided over an open session in the conference room. While Bhim Dehingia, the president of Demow College’s administrative committee, lit the earthen candle and gave the welcoming address, Pabitra Gogoi, the college’s vice-principal, discussed the meeting’s goals. Akhim Baishya, SDM&HO, and Dr. Bijit Borah were visitors.

Speaking at the event were retired professor Biren Barua of Demow College, former vice-principal Dr. Bipul Gogoi, and former in-charge principal Mohendra Dutta. Four deserving students from the Sociology department and two from the History department were honored for their strong performance in this year’s Bachelor of Arts Examination. Two college netball players who performed well at the national level were also honored. Among the dignitaries in attendance were Pallabi Khanikar Borgohain, Vice-Principal of Swarna Bidyapith Senior Secondary School; Dulu Konwar, retired Head Assistant of Demow College; Bichitra Barua, Dr. Ranu Gogoi, Dr. Prafulla Hazarika, and Kusum Handique, retired professors of Demow College; and Dr. Akhil Das, a physician in Khongea tea estate.
