Indian cricketer and Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel was arrested by police on Tuesday in connection with a complaint alleging sexual relations with a woman on the promise of marriage.
Porel was taken into custody from Hooghly in the morning and questioned for several hours. He was formally arrested later in the afternoon, following which police took him for a medical examination. He was subsequently produced before the Chinsurah Court, while an anticipatory bail hearing in the matter was also scheduled for Tuesday.
The case was registered after a medical student approached Mogra Police Station with a complaint against Porel. According to the complaint, the woman alleged that she was in a relationship with the cricketer and that they had sexual relations after he allegedly promised to marry her. She also claimed that Porel recorded their intimate moments.
The woman further alleged that the two families had discussed their possible marriage. However, she claimed that she later discovered Porel was allegedly involved with other women.
The FIR reportedly contains 19 sections and refers to an alleged incident that took place in Delhi on April 2, 2026. According to the complaint, Porel allegedly confined the woman, deprived her of food and kept her isolated. The complainant claimed that she subsequently became physically weak and had difficulty walking.
The FIR further alleges that despite having a flight to catch, the woman had to seek immediate medical treatment because of injuries she claimed to have suffered. These allegations form part of the complaint and remain subject to police investigation and the legal process.
