Cybercrime Awareness Workshop for Children conducted at DPS Numaligarh

In an era where the digital realm increasingly influences every aspect of life, Delhi Public School Numaligarh, one of Assam’s premier educational institutions, organized a pivotal workshop on cybercrime awareness today. The session was led by Abhishek Kabra, a Research Scholar from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Tezpur University, who is working on children’s safety in cyberspace.  The workshop was designed to address the growing threats posed by cybercrimes, which disproportionately impact children due to their frequent and unregulated use of digital platforms.

Covering a range of critical topics such as hacking, cyberbullying, grooming and cyber sexual abuse, phishing, and online fraud, Kabra emphasized the importance of proactive measures to ensure children are safe in the digital world. Delivering an impactful message, Abhishek Kabra remarked*, “The digital space is both an opportunity and a challenge. While it offers children avenues to learn, connect, and grow, it also exposes them to potential harm. The key lies in empowering them with the right knowledge. Awareness is the first and most powerful line of defence against cybercrimes.

Just like learning to cross the road safely, digital safety must become second nature to our children.” This workshop was a significant initiative in fostering digital literacy among students. By addressing their vulnerabilities and guiding them on safe online practices, it aimed to reduce the risks associated with cyber threats. The interactive session also allowed students to share their own experiences and concerns, making the learning process dynamic and relatable. Notably, Kabra has conducted cybercrime awareness workshops to more than 1000 students in the state and aims to effectively communicate to them, the netiquettes in digital space.  The overwhelming participation and engagement of around 400 students during the session underscored the necessity of such initiatives in today’s tech-driven world.
