On Thursday, Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta called an emergency meeting due to the rise in Covid-19 infections in China.
Mahanta said there are plans to monitor passengers coming from outside the state. Also, precautions should be taken in advance for emerging situations.
According to sources, no new case of covid has been detected in Assam since last month.
“If any new Covid cases are detected, such samples will be sent to the INSACOG lab for genome sequencing,” a health department spokesperson said. The Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) is a national multi-agency consortium of Genome Sequencing Laboratories (RGSLs).
Health officials also discussed the low booster dose coverage, which is less than 15% of eligible beneficiaries in the state. Wearing masks in public has not been made mandatory for now.
