Cooking gas prices have increased across the country, adding pressure on household budgets. The price of domestic LPG cylinders has been raised by ₹60 in one go. With the latest revision, the price of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder has gone up from ₹879 to ₹939. Not only domestic cylinders, but the price of commercial LPG cylinders has also increased. The cost of a 19 kg commercial cylinder has been raised by ₹114.50. Earlier priced at ₹1,875.50, the new price now stands at ₹1,990 per cylinder.
It may be recalled that on March 1, the price of commercial LPG cylinders had already been increased by ₹31 per cylinder. However, at that time the price of domestic LPG remained unchanged. Within just five days, prices of both domestic and commercial cylinders have now been raised.
Experts believe the ongoing conflict situation in West Asia is affecting the global fuel market. The tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States have disrupted energy transportation through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s key oil transit routes. This disruption has caused volatility in international oil prices, which is now impacting the Indian market as well.
Meanwhile, the Petroleum Ministry has reintroduced an older rule regarding LPG purchases. Under this regulation, households will be allowed to buy only one LPG cylinder every 21 days.
However, the central government has assured that India currently has sufficient fuel reserves to meet immediate demand. Russia has also promised to continue supplying the necessary fuel, while the United States has given conditional approval for India to import oil from Russia for the next month.
With the latest hike in cooking gas prices, many believe the financial burden on common households is set to increase once again.
