Assam Congress Chief Bhupen Borah has accused the state police of failing to apprehend key suspects in a high-profile trading fraud case, including Sumi Borah and her husband Tarkik Borah. Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Borah alleged that the police’s inability to track down these individuals points to a larger issue of protection offered by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Borah further claimed that the Chief Minister has a pattern of diverting attention whenever corruption linked to his associates surfaces. “There are several instances where he has deflected media attention when allegations of corruption involving his circle arise,” Borah stated. He also pointed out other fugitives yet to be caught, including Rajeev Paul (APSC scam), Mridupawan Neog (on the run since 2022), and Dipankar Barman (accused in a Rs 7,000 crore fraud).
Borah alleged that Sumi Borah’s connections with the Chief Minister, backed by photographic evidence, are hampering the police investigation, suggesting that such ties could cause “big problems” in making arrests.
