CM Mamata Banerjee during a press conference on Tuesday, cancelled West Bengal Class 10 Madhyamik board exams and the Class 12 Uchha Madhyamik board exams.
Earlier, CM Banerjee had said that the Class 12 board exams would be conducted in the last week of July and Madhyamik or Class 10 board exams would be held in the second week of August.
The decision to cancel the exams came after the public had given a stand against the conduction of board exams amidst the pandemic. The CM said that 79% of the 24000 emails that were received from the public were against conducting the Class 10 Madhyamik board exams 2021, while 83% voted against the Uchha Madhyamik Class 12 board exams.
“Many students face problems if no exams are conducted as well. Good students use the marks from board exams to decide their future,” the CM added.
