Assam plunged into grief and disbelief following the sudden demise of legendary singer Zubeen Garg, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announcing the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the circumstances surrounding his untimely death. The announcement came on Wednesday after a high-level meeting at Dispur, where the Chief Minister assured the people that the government would leave “no stone unturned” in uncovering the truth.
Addressing the media, Sarma said the SIT would be composed of senior and experienced officers of Assam Police, chosen for their professional integrity and track record. He emphasized that the team would function with complete autonomy and independence, without external pressure or interference. “In regard to the untimely death of our beloved Zubeen Garg, we will not spare anyone. The people of Assam deserve to know the truth, and they will get the truth,” the Chief Minister declared. As part of the probe, viscera samples of the late singer have been sent to the Central Forensic Laboratory (CFL) in New Delhi for advanced scientific examination. Authorities believe that the forensic report will play a critical role in determining the cause of death, which has already sparked a wave of speculation and concern among fans.
Zubeen Garg, who passed away in Singapore earlier this week, was more than just a musician to the people of Assam—he was a cultural icon, a voice of generations, and a symbol of Assamese identity. His sudden demise has triggered shockwaves across the state and beyond, with tributes pouring in from political leaders, artists, and millions of admirers. Candlelight vigils have been held in Guwahati, Jorhat, Tezpur, and other towns, where fans continue to gather to celebrate his life and demand a fair investigation.
