Campaigning for the Sidli by-election wrapped up on Monday, November 11, as major political parties held intensive rallies across the constituency to gather last-minute support. The ruling and opposition parties mobilized significant resources, each aiming to secure a win in the closely watched poll scheduled for November 13. The opposition Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) candidate, Shuddha Basumatary, held rallies in Dholmara, Nadanguri, Lataguri, Joreguri, Kursakarti, and Champanagar, where he championed the need for development and equal rights. Basumatary urged voters to support BPF for a prosperous future, emphasizing the party’s commitment to regional welfare.
Meanwhile, the NDA-backed United Peoples’ Party Liberal (UPPL) candidate, Nirmal Kumar Brahma, campaigned with support from prominent leaders, including ministers U.G. Brahma, Ashok Singhal, and BTR CEM Promod Boro. Brahma portrayed himself as the candidate for positive change, backed by the ruling coalition’s resources and agenda. Congress candidate Sanjeev Owari is also in the race, though he has faced criticism from both BPF and UPPL, with doubts raised about his ability to address key issues.
