Chinese Chipmaker CXMT Surges Over 500% in Blockbuster Market Debut to Become Mainland China’s Most Valuable Listed Firm

Shares of Chinese memory chip giant ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) skyrocketed more than 500% during their Shanghai stock market debut, propelling the semiconductor manufacturer to become the most valuable publicly listed company in mainland China. The explosive market entry followed Asia’s largest initial public offering of the year, raising $8.6 billion as investor demand overwhelmed available shares. CXMT’s dramatic surge pushed its market capitalization past 3.6 trillion yuan ($539 billion), briefly eclipsing major state-backed banking titans like the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China. The dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) producer has drawn widespread international attention amid reports that tech giant Apple sought U.S. regulatory permissions to explore using CXMT memory components to diversify its global supply chain. Fueled by a global boom in artificial intelligence infrastructure and rising memory prices, CXMT has emerged as a crucial player in Beijing’s strategy to build domestic semiconductor self-sufficiency while competing directly with international heavyweights like Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron.
