The Central and Uttar Pradesh governments have reinforced their collaboration in skill development, with a special focus on the ₹60,000 crore National ITI Upgradation Scheme. The initiative aims to modernize 1,000 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across India, enhancing employability and meeting industry demands.
Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Union Minister of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (I/C), met with Shri Kapil Dev Agrawal, Uttar Pradesh’s Skill Development Minister, at Kaushal Bhawan, New Delhi, to discuss the seamless execution of key programs like PMKVY, PM Vishwakarma, and the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS). Officials highlighted that Uttar Pradesh has trained over 24.73 lakh individuals under PMKVY, with 93,000 enrolling in futuristic job roles such as AI engineers and EV service technicians under PMKVY 4.0.
With 3,258 ITIs across 75 districts, Uttar Pradesh is set to play a crucial role in the ITI modernization project, which will be funded through ₹30,000 crore from the Centre, ₹20,000 crore from states, and ₹10,000 crore from industry partnerships. Shri Jayant Chaudhary emphasized the need for industry-driven curricula and AI-driven skilling to align with market trends. The initiative is expected to create new opportunities in major industrial hubs, including Guwahati. Experts believe the upgraded ITIs will contribute to the skilled workforce demand in sectors like logistics, manufacturing, and renewable energy, boosting the employability of youth in the region.
