Debolal Gorlosa, the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC), officially opened two recently installed borewell-based water tank projects, a major step toward resolving the drinking water crisis in Haflong, the sole hill station in Assam. PWD 3rd Colony and Sengya Sambhudan Raji are the locations of the projects, each of which has a 24,000-liter storage capacity. NCHAC Chairman Mohet Hojai and other council members attended the inaugural ceremony. Over 200 families have benefited from the connection of each borewell water system to more than 100 homes. Every two to three days, homes will receive approximately 1,000 liters of clean drinking water on a rotating basis.
The idea has been well received by the locals, who have thanked the CEM for taking a crucial step in guaranteeing clean drinking water. Many locals remembered that in the past, obtaining drinkable water required them to trek more than a kilometer. Speaking at the event, CEM Debolal Gorlosa stated that the program’s goal was to lessen the drinking water situation in some of Haflong town’s most difficult neighborhoods. The council’s special package has provided funding for the project. More than 1,000 Haflong homes have already benefited from water pipeline hookups made possible by this program, he continued.
