CAP Chief Ganesh Rai slams SKM Government on Foundation Day

Citizen Action Party (CAP) chief Ganesh Rai launched a scathing attack on the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) government during the party’s third foundation day celebration in Rangpo. Rai accused the SKM of rampant corruption, mismanagement of public funds, and failure to fulfill electoral promises, asserting CAP’s commitment to clean and accountable governance. Marking 50 years of Sikkim’s integration with India, Rai expressed disappointment over the state’s political direction, claiming that personal interests have consistently overshadowed public welfare. “Ministers and politicians have been bought and sold, but CAP remains steadfast in its principles of transparency and accountability,” Rai stated.

He specifically criticized the SKM’s handling of COVID-19 relief funds, alleging misuse of ₹40 crore on hiring a single singer while ignoring developmental priorities and local talent. Rai also accused the SKM of replicating corrupt practices from the Sikkim Democratic Front’s (SDF) 25-year rule, stating, “They are looting the people and owe an apology to the SDF for mirroring its governance style.”Highlighting governance issues, Rai condemned the creation of redundant posts like the Cabinet Secretary and reemployment of retired officials, which he argued stifles opportunities for new talent. He also criticized the government for unfulfilled promises, including waiving electricity bills, noting that many villages without electricity still receive bills.

Rai further alleged misuse of government vehicles by officials’ family members, including the Chief Minister’s wife, and accused the SKM of politicizing the Panchayati Raj system.
