Cairn Oil & Gas launches​ Handloom Centre in Borpathar area, Golaghat district

To promote sustainable livelihood among the Self-Help Groups in the Borpathar area near Golaghat district, Cairn Oil and Gas, Vedanta Ltd. launched a Handloom Centre on 13th March 2024 in the Ramdhenu Village Organisation. This has been developed as a part of the livelihood generation initiatives in partnership with Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission and District Handloom Department, Govt of Assam. 

Dr. Steve Moore, Deputy CEO, inaugurated the Handloom Centre, with dignitaries including Gary Ingram, President of Exploration, Mandeep Narang, Director of RJ North, Arunabh Parashar, Head of Exploration, and Ranjan Trivedi, Regional Head from Cairn. The project involves 3 Village Organisations, 60 SHGs, with 28 already registered under the “Swanibhar Nari” scheme under the Govt. of Assam. The Handloom Department, Govt of Assam, is directly procuring over 2000+ Gamosas from each registered SHG under this scheme, at a fixed price of INR 270 per unit.

The Cairn CSR team and enabled access to the government schemes to the community members living in Golaghat district near the Hazarigaon well site. This Handloom Centre will enable the women to locally produce and earn a livelihood. 200 women from the various SHGs took part in the event. The project was carried out under Cairn’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative led by Mr. Ajoy Bezbaruah. Cairn is committed to exploring and developing the hydrocarbon potential of Northeast.
