Bordoloi’s Political Shift Raises Questions Over Parteek’s Path

The formal induction of Pradyut Bordoloi into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has prompted discussions regarding the future political trajectory of his son, Parteek Bordoloi, who remains affiliated with the Indian National Congress (INC) in Assam. Parteek currently holds the position of Co-Chairman of the Social Media Department within the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee and is the party’s candidate for the Margherita constituency, which is notably recognized as his father’s political bastion.

Addressing the unfolding situation, Pradyut Bordoloi asserted that political choices made within his family are autonomous. He declared, “I have taken every decision in my life on my own. I had no godfather in the Congress,” emphasizing that he advised his son that as an adult, he must make his own informed decisions. Furthermore, Pradyut reassured that his shift to BJP would not influence Parteek’s political aspirations, stating his commitment to respecting whatever choice his son makes regarding his political path.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma echoed this sentiment, underscoring the inappropriateness of conflating familial ties with individual political determinations. He advised against involving family members in political discourse, noting that each individual’s decisions should be seen independently. Sarma specified that BJP’s engagement is exclusively focused on Pradyut Bordoloi, asserting that he had not discussed Parteek’s political stance and it would be improper to do so.

Earlier in the day, Pradyut Bordoloi officially joined the BJP in New Delhi, accompanied by significant party figures including Sarma, Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia, and Union Minister Pabitra Margherita. He characterized his decision to leave the Congress as “emotionally difficult,” revealing feelings of being “suffocated and sidelined” within the party and expressing a desire for a political environment where he can operate with dignity.

The BJP leadership also suggested the potential for additional political realignments within Assam, with Sarma indicating ongoing efforts to attract leaders from other political factions into the BJP.
