Bordoloi’s BJP Entry Sparks Row, Congress Reacts Strongly

The recent induction of Nagaon MP Pradyut Bordoloi into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has sparked political reactions, with the Indian National Congress labeling the move as “unfortunate.” Congress leader Supriya Shrinate criticized Bordoloi for his past, calling him a “corrupt and manipulative powerbroker,” which has raised questions about his transition to the BJP. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed regret over Bordoloi’s departure, suggesting it stemmed from dissatisfaction with ticket allocations.

Congress MP Imran Masood condemned Bordoloi’s resignation as a compromise of ideology, noting his previous victory in a constituency with a significant Muslim population and pledging efforts to persuade him to return. Conversely, BJP officials defended the move, claiming it exemplifies growing support for their party and disparaging the Congress as losing relevance, indicating that other Congress leaders might follow Bordoloi’s example.

In his resignation from Congress, Bordoloi cited dissatisfaction with the party’s choice to nominate MLA Dr. Asif Nazar for candidacy, alleging Nazar was involved in a life-threatening attack against him. Bordoloi officially joined the BJP in New Delhi, just weeks ahead of the Assam Assembly elections.
