BJP government focuses on preserving Assam’s interests

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reaffirmed his government’s commitment to protecting Assam’s unique identity, addressing concerns over demographic changes. Speaking on September 27, Sarma assured the public that the BJP-led government is taking active steps to preserve the interests of the state’s people.

“We are dedicated to safeguarding Assam from demographic threats and will ensure the protection of our cultural identity,” said Sarma. He emphasized that measures are being taken based on recommendations from the Justice Biplab Sarma Committee report on Clause 6 of the Assam Accord.

In a move to maintain transparency, Sarma announced that the Committee’s report has been made public, allowing the nation to assess the situation. “As promised, we have released the report for an objective national discourse on the ground realities,” he stated.

Following discussions with the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Sarma’s government initiated the implementation of 52 of the Committee’s recommendations, though 15 key suggestions requiring Constitutional amendments are yet to be acted upon. “We will address these with the Centre at the appropriate time,” Sarma posted on X.
