The Assam BJP today alleged that a radical Islamic leader from Uttar Pradesh is accompanying Priyanka Gandhi during her Assam tour.
Addressing a press conference today at the State BJP Headquarter in Guwahati, BJP spokesperson Kamal Kumar Medhi made explosive remarks regarding Imran Masood, who has been assigned responsibility as a member of the Congress Screening Committee for Assam.
Medhi declared that for the forthcoming Assam Legislative Assembly elections, Congress has conferred responsibility upon a radical Islamic leader from Uttar Pradesh. As a member of the Screening Committee for Assam, Congress has entrusted Imran Masood, notorious in Uttar Pradesh for fomenting religious strife. By doing so, Rahul Gandhi, under the leadership of Gaurav Gogoi and Rakibul Hussain, has woven a sinister design to once again plunge Assam into turmoil, Medhi said.
He said that in the run‑up to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Imran Masood, candidate from Saharanpur constituency of Uttar Pradesh, declared at an election rally that he would cut Narendra Modi into pieces. He proclaimed that while Gujarat has only 4 percent Muslims, Uttar Pradesh has 42 percent, and therefore he feared neither attack nor assassination of Modi. Subsequently, for spreading venomous hate speech, Imran Masood was imprisoned, and he was defeated in the 2014 elections. On November 12, 2025, Imran Masood stood in defence of the suicide bomber who detonated near Delhi’s Red Fort, said Medhi.
He urged said that the principal accused, Dr. Umab Un Nabi, whose car bomb claimed the lives of 14 innocent Indians, was defended by Masood, who argued that an educated Muslim cannot be a terrorist.
“Before the Bihar elections, in a podcast, Imran Masood compared the ruthless and barbaric terrorists of Hamas to India’s valiant martyr freedom fighter Bhagat Singh,” the BJP spokesman said.
“Leaders like Gaurav Gogoi and Rakibul Hussain, who are sympathetic to Pakistan, have now imported into Assam a radical Islamic fundamentalist thinker like Imran Masood, and by assigning him this crucial responsibility for the forthcoming Assembly elections, they have conspired to weaken Assam through a dangerous plot,” he added.
