The Biswanath district administration in Assam has ordered the deportation of a man declared a foreigner to Bangladesh under the provisions of the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act, 1950.The order was issued by Biswanath District Magistrate Karabi Saikia Karan following a report submitted by the Superintendent of Police (Border). The report stated that Kayam Ansari, a resident of Kherbari village in Assam’s Sonitpur district, had been declared a Bangladeshi citizen and a foreigner by a Foreigners’ Tribunal. According to the official order, Ansari has been lodged at the Matia Transit Camp in Goalpara district since his arrest on May 28, 2025. The district administration said there are no pending court cases, writ petitions or any other legal proceedings against him that could prevent his deportation.
The administration stated that there is no legal impediment to carrying out the deportation and directed Ansari to leave Assam and proceed to Bangladesh through one of the designated border points at Sribhumi, Dhubri or South Salmara within 24 hours of receiving the order. The order further stated that if he fails to comply within the stipulated time, the government will proceed with his forceful deportation in accordance with the provisions of the law. The Superintendent of Police (Border), Biswanath, has been instructed to complete the deportation process immediately in coordination with the concerned authorities and ensure that Ansari is handed over to Bangladesh through the designated border route.
In addition to the deportation order, the District Election Officer has been directed to remove Ansari’s name from the electoral roll, if it is found to be enrolled. The Revenue Department has also been instructed to take appropriate action regarding any movable or immovable property held by him in accordance with existing legal provisions.
