Krutrim, a homegrown AI company of Ola’s Bhavish Agarwal, on Friday announced that it has successfully closed its first funding round with a significant $50 million investment. Led by key investors including Matrix Partners India, the round valued Krutrim at $1 billion, making it India’s fastest unicorn and the country’s first AI unicorn.
On the announcement, Agarwal said, “At Krutrim, we are committed to building India’s first complete AI computing stack. We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of our first funding round, which not only validates the potential of Krutrim’s innovative AI solutions but also underscores investors’ confidence in its ability to bring meaningful change beyond India to the world.”
Avneesh Bajaj, Founder and MD of Matrix Partners India praised Agarwal’s track record of technology innovation and expressed the privilege to deepen their partnership with Krutrim.
Krutrim recently revealed its base Large Language Model (LLM) using the largest Indian data representation for training. This model supports generative AI applications for all Indian languages and will serve as the basis for Crutrim’s conversational AI assistant, capable of understanding and speaking multiple Indian languages fluently.
The Krutrim family includes the base model and Krutrim Pro, which offer multimodal capabilities, greater cognitive capabilities, and technological advancements for estimation. Trained on 2 trillion tokens, Krutrim exhibits superior performance on the global LLM evaluation benchmark, according to the company.
