Beyond Stardom: How Ranveer Singh and Ranbir Kapoor Approach Their Craft Differently

Actor Naveen Kaushik has provided insights into the differing working styles of Bollywood stars Ranveer Singh and Ranbir Kapoor, highlighting their unique approaches and energies on set. Though both are highly skilled, Kaushik notes that their contrasting methods significantly influence the dynamics during filming, based on his experiences across various projects with them.

According to Naveen, Ranveer Singh is characterized as an “electric” presence, remarkably capable of boosting the morale of those around him. He recounted their collaboration on a demanding project that signified Ranveer’s comeback to cinema after a significant hiatus. Despite the immense pressure and anticipation tied to the film, Naveen noted that Ranveer exhibited unwavering commitment and a profound awareness of the responsibility accompanying his role.

Naveen expressed his admiration for Ranveer’s portrayal of Hamza in the film Dhurandhar, noting the stark contrast to his typical energetic roles. He remarked that audiences usually expect Ranveer to be loud and menacing, but in this role, Hamza’s character is restrained, subtle, and emotionally controlled. Naveen emphasized that the anticipation of an explosive moment, which never comes, enhances the character’s impact and power on screen.

The filming of the project extended over a year and a half, with more than 200 days of shooting in diverse and extreme weather conditions, including the heat of Bangkok and Mumbai, as well as the cold of Ladakh and Amritsar. During this period, Ranveer played a crucial role as a motivator, frequently stepping in to uplift the crew’s spirits whenever their energy waned, delivering spontaneous speeches to realign their focus on the film’s overarching vision.

Ranveer demonstrated remarkable dedication and leadership on set, as highlighted by his willingness to remain after completing his shots to energize large crowds during rally scenes, orchestrating chants and encouraging reactions despite his exhaustion. Additionally, he took it upon himself to guide Naveen, a newcomer to intense stunt work, through the action sequences, showcasing a spirit of generosity that Naveen described as “truly magnanimous,” emphasizing that such support was not required of him. This exemplifies Ranveer’s commitment to both his craft and his fellow actors.

In contrast to Ranveer, Naveen describes Ranbir Kapoor as having a quieter, introspective energy on set. Though less expressive, Ranbir commands respect with his calm focus and deep involvement in his work, making him a grounding presence whose impact is subtle yet significant.

Kaushik highlighted the shared trait of humility between actors Ranbir and Ranveer, despite their different temperaments. He reminisced about their considerate gestures during past projects like Rocket Singh and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, noting that both actors frequently inquired about his career and well-being. A notable instance occurred during a demanding shoot in Bangkok when Ranveer, seeing Kaushik alone, offered to provide water or shade for his comfort.

Kaushik praises the humility of two actors, emphasizing that comparisons are unnecessary as both have achieved success through talent and hard work. Naveen reflects on his experience, stating that he feels guided by the actors, Ranveer and Ranbir, rather than the other way around, considering it a privilege to observe their journeys closely.
