The tranquil Mont Pukhuri in Barbhagia, Jamugurihat, Assam, becomes a bustling center as winter approaches, resonating with the sounds of migratory birds. Many thousands of birds visit this vast body of water, which spans over 20 bighas, every year. Northern pintails, pelicans, wild ducks, greylag geese, and tufted ducks are some of the visiting species that give the pond life and beauty, particularly at dawn and sunset.
Onlookers have expressed their delight for the captivating scenes of these bird guests playing elegantly in the water. Usually arriving in early November, the migratory flocks stay for four to five months before departing in late March. The residents’ diligent efforts to keep the area suitable for these birds’ seasonal stay are responsible for their frequent and undisturbed visits.
