Bangladesh’s Renewable Energy Drive Gets $500M World Bank Boost

In a major green energy push, Bangladesh has secured $500 million in funding from the World Bank to construct large-scale solar parks across the country. The plan includes a total capacity of 1,200 megawatts by 2030.

Officials say sites in Rangpur, Rajshahi and Khulna have been identified for initial development. The parks will reduce fossil fuel dependence and help meet Bangladesh’s growing energy demands.

India’s northeastern states and Bhutan, both with strong solar potential, are monitoring the project for possible cross-border energy sharing and technical collaboration, given regional efforts toward a South Asian Green Grid.
