Bandhan Life launches accidental cover rider offering protection up to Rs 3 Crore

Amid persistent safety risks across India despite rising investments, Bandhan Life has introduced a new add-on insurance cover aimed at strengthening financial protection for families in case of accidental deaths. The company’s Linked Enhanced Accidental Death Benefit (ADB) Rider offers coverage of up to ₹3 crore, targeting risks such as train and air accidents, stampedes, and fires at large gatherings.

India has significantly increased spending on safety, with Indian Railways’ safety budget rising from ₹39,463 crore in 2013–14 to ₹1,16,470 crore in 2025–26, while consequential train accidents dropped sharply. However, risks remain substantial, with NCRB data showing 21,803 deaths in rail accidents in 2023 and over 3,000 deaths in stampedes between 2001 and 2022.

Bandhan Life’s rider comes in two options; Premium and Classic. The Premium variant offers payouts of up to 300% of the rider sum assured, while the Classic option allows coverage of up to three times the base sum assured, capped at ₹3 crore. The rider also offers flexibility, allowing policyholders to modify coverage based on income, liabilities, or lifestyle changes.

Maneesh Mishra, Chief Product and Marketing Officer at Bandhan Life, said the product is designed to reflect everyday risks and address the protection gap faced by Indian families.

In Guwahati, where awareness around financial security products is steadily increasing, such flexible and affordable insurance add-ons are expected to see growing demand. With expanding urbanisation and rising travel, insurers are witnessing greater interest in accident-specific covers among middle-income households.
