B. Borooah College launches integrated teacher education programme from 2026–27

B. Borooah College (Autonomous) will introduce the four-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) from the 2026–27 academic session, enabling students to earn both an undergraduate degree and a Bachelor of Education qualification through a single integrated course. The programme, to be conducted in partnership with Government Banikanta College of Teacher Education, will offer B.A. B.Ed. and B.Sc. B.Ed. dual-degree courses in line with ongoing national reforms in teacher education.

The integrated programme will allow students to complete both qualifications within four years, reducing the duration by one academic year compared to pursuing the degrees separately. Graduates will be eligible to teach at the higher secondary level while remaining qualified to pursue postgraduate studies such as M.A. and M.Sc. in their respective disciplines. The curriculum is designed to combine subject knowledge with pedagogical training, classroom exposure and professional preparation. For students enrolling in the programme, the college has arranged separate residential hostels for boys and girls. The facilities are expected to attract students from across Assam, the Northeast, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha and other parts of the country. Applications for the 2026–27 academic session are being accepted through the Assam Samarth Admission Portal.

In Patna, the new programme is expected to generate interest among aspiring teachers in Bihar seeking an integrated and time-efficient teacher education pathway. With improved connectivity to Guwahati and dedicated hostel facilities, the initiative could encourage greater student mobility between eastern and northeastern India while expanding higher education choices for students from Patna and other parts of the state. The launch of the programme comes as B. Borooah College marks 83 years of academic excellence. The autonomous institution holds an A++ grade with a cumulative grade point average of 3.62 from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, the highest accreditation score secured by a government-sector higher education institution in Northeast India.
