The number of coronavirus cases in India have continued to rise at an alarming rate. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has tested negative for coronavirus after he gave his sample for testing due to getting in close contact with a BJP leader, who later turned out to be infected with COVID-19. “The CM’s swab sample has been taken today for Covid-19 test,” said chief minister’s public relations officer BK Shukla. The chief minister had met the senior BJP functionary at least twice during the last 10 days, the last being on July 2 during the swearing-in ceremony of nine MLCs. Fire broke out on the 10th floor of a residential building in Kolkata''s Alipore area on Saturday evening, police said.There are no reports of any casualties, they said. Five fire tenders are at the spot to douse the blaze that broke out around 8.40 pm, police said.The entire building, located on upscale Belvedere Road, has been evacuated, a senior officer of the fire department said. "The fire is under control at the moment. Our officers are still working there," he said. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, he added.

Heavy rains will continue to lash Mumbai and the coastal districts of Maharashtra for the second consecutive day on Saturday, an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The IMD had issued a red alert late on Friday for Mumbai, Raigad and Ratnagiri. It had predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall on Saturday in many places in Palghar, Mumbai, Thane and Raigad districts.
