Maharashtra adds 5,368 new COVID-19 cases

Maharashtra's COVID-19 tally rose to 2,11,987 on Monday with the state adding 5,368 new cases, while more than 200 patients succumbed to the infection.   A total of 3,522 patients were discharged from hospitals, taking the number of recovered persons to 1,15,262, the department said. There are 87,681 active cases in the state at present, it added.  Meanwhile, the nationwide tally of coronavirus cases crossed seven lakh on Monday. ICMR Bolsters ‘mid-August’ Covid Vaccine

The Indian Council of Medical Research has shortlisted 12 institutes, including one from Odisha, for human clinical trial of the India’s first COVID-19 vaccine. ICMR has developed the indigenous BBV152 COVID vaccine in partnership with Bharat Biotech International Limited (BBIL). The apex body selected 12 institutes to fast track clinical trials of the vaccine which is one of the top priority projects monitored by the Central government. "The vaccine is derived from a strain of SARS-CoV-2 isolated by ICMR-National Institute of Virology, Pune. ICMR and BBIL are jointly working for the pre-clinical as well as clinical development of this vaccine," an official said.
