No new COVID case in East Khasi Hills

Ever since the onset of the pandemic, the East Khasi Hills, which has been the most affected district in Meghalaya, reported no new COVID-19 case on the last day January. Director Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said that the three new COVID-19 cases were detected in the State today, which included one each from the West Khasi Hills district, Ri-Bhoi district and West Jaintia Hills district. “All the nine recoveries from Covid-19 recorded today were also in the East Khasi Hills district,” he added. Agitators vandalise NSU in Manipur

Five policemen hurt in scuffle As many as five police personnel were injured as agitators armed with deadly weapons intruded into the under construction permanent campus of the National Sports University and ransacked the campus on Friday. The agitators further torched some makeshift camps of the labourers, vandalised machineries and damaged a car parked inside the NSU campus belonging to a policeman guarding the campus, reports said. Sangma has refused to sack Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui in the wake of BJP seeking his removal following the death of six labourers in an illegal coal mine in the East Jaintia Hills district.  “That is the opinion of a political party. A civil society group on Thursday demanded the arrest of a Cabinet minister’s brother for allegedly carrying out illegal mining and holding him indirectly responsible for the death of six coal miners in East Jaintia Hills district recently.
