Indian cities report massive new cases even as deaths remain low

As the daily spike rates increase globally, in India, cases have begun to surge with even record cases in many European countries, the fatalities have remained low. Delhi recorded zero deaths while Mumbai recorded one fatality due to Covid-19. Countries across the world including Europe and US are seeing a fresh surge in Covid-19 cases fulled by the highly infectious Omicron variant, which was detected in South Africa last month.  The new variant has also resulted in high hospitalisation, even in countries with high vaccination numbers.

In 2021 India Saw Record Deaths (126) of Tigers

 India's tiger conservation body said 126 of the endangered big cats died in 2021, the highest toll since it began compiling data a decade ago. The most recent death was recorded on Wednesday in Madhya Pradesh, according to the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA). India is home to around 75% of the world's tigers. Over the past decade the biggest cause of death was recorded by the NTCA as being "natural causes", but many also fell victim to poachers and "human-animal conflict". 4.1 magnitude earthquake shakes Pithoragarh district in Uttarakhand

An earthquake of magnitude 4.1 struck Pithoragarh district midnight on Thursday but no damage has been reported. The earthquake occurred at 12.39 am had its epicentre at a depth of 10 km in Askot, District Disaster Management Officer Bhupendra Mahar said.  "No damage has been reported so far as the earthquake was of mild intensity," Mahar said. On Wednesday, an earthquake of magnitude 4.3 on the Richter Scale jolted Southeast of Portblair in the early hours. According to NCS, the tremors of the earthquake had a depth of 100 kilometres and occurred at around 5.31 am.
