Barak valley 12-hours bandh

12-hours Barak valley bandh called by Barak Democratic Front (BDF). According to reports, the bandh was called to protest against the deprivation of the unemployed youth of the valley in the recruitment process for class III and IV posts. The bandh was also called to protest the harassment of Bengalis in Meghalaya. So far the closure has been peaceful, and no picketers have been present on the streets of Silchar. Various organizations have also extended their support.

‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ now in Guwahati

‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, The Assam Congress reaches Guwahati on Thrusday. The march is also joined by Raijor dal which is the opposition party. Reports said, more than 500 people joined the march. All India Congress Committee general secretary Jitendra Singh, state Congress presidents of Assam, Sikkim and Manipur, former Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Navam Tuki and other leaders took part in the 8-km march through city streets, sources said. Other opposition parties and prominent citizens of the state will also join the rally on Friday, which has already passed through Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma's Jalukbari constituency on Wednesday.

Thirteen Left-wing extremists have surrendered in Dibrugarh and Cachar districts of Assam. The news came to light, when Special Director General of Police said through a tweet. He tweeted, “13 cadres of proscribed CPI-M joined mainstream today - leaving the path of violence behind - at Dibrugarh and Cachar. They are associates of CPI-M leader Aru Kumar Bhattacharjee @ Kanchan da who was arrested earlier this year by @assampolice.”According to the sources, veteran CPI (Maoist) leader Arun Kumar Bhattacharjee was arrested ealier this year.

On Tuesday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated new infrastructure project at Guahati Medical College (GMC).  CM tweeted, "As part of our initiative to transform @gmchgauhati into a world-class healthcare centre, pleased to inaugurate new infrastructure, including a new auditorium, Principal's residence, attendants' guest house, boys' hostel and nurse quarters." Facilities included in infrastructure are 450-seater new auditorium, a principal's residence, attendants' guest house, boys' hostel and nurses' quarters. Seven apes were rescued from smugglers on Monday. The police arrested both of them by chasing more than 10 kilometers at night. Hailakandi Divisional Forest Officer Akhil Dutta said that the rescued animals are not indigenous to India, but belong to the endangered species of ape. “At around 8:30 pm on Monday, they reached our checkpost and we noticed some boxes inside the vehicle. Assam government inks partnership with IIM Bangalore

The Assam government has signed Mou (Memorandum of understanding) with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore. The purpose of the partnership is for training students under young professional programme. Under the CMYPP, 70 young professionals will be jointly monitored by the Government of Assam (GoA) and IIM-B will assist the government authorities at the district level for two years. The female elephant named Jayamala, also known as Jeymalyath, is in the custody of the Thirukovil temple in Sriviliputhu Nachia.
