Assam Police arrested 2,170 people

On Saturday, Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) (IGP L&O) Bhuyan updated the number of persons arrested in connection with the crime since yesterday morning till today morning. Bhuiyan said, “The statistics of arrests in child marriage cases have increased. As of this morning, the police have arrested 2,170 people across the state and it will increase." On Friday morning 1,800 people were arrested linked to the crime. Today, eventually the number of cases has risen to 2,170 across the state. Union Budget to directly benefit Assam: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament presented the Union Budget 2023-24 on February 2. On Thursday, Chief Minister Himanata Biswa Sarma said that Union Budget 2023-24 will directly benefit Assam with an additional fund of Rs. 10,000 crore. Sarma also spoke about last year budget which was Rs 25,000 crore but ended up getting 29,000 crore.  This year Assam CM believes that the state will surely end up in Rs 35,000 crore against the budget amount 31,950 crore. Urban bodies to be benefitted by 61% more grant and Panchayat bodies 15% more grant.

Investigation begins for Child marriage in Assam

Today early morning crackdown for child marriage started in the state, Assam and will continue for next three to four days. Assam Police covered many reports regarding the issue and along with it many got arrested, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told. ‘Foreigners’ Shifted to Matia Detention Centre in Assam

On Friday, first batch of illegal foreigner shifted to the Matia Transit Camp. This camp is the country’s largest detention centre. So far 68 persons are transferred to the centre. The transit camnp is located in Goalpara about 130km west of Guwahati. Among the detainees shifted to the camp includes 45 men, 21 women and two children. They all are declared as foreigners by the quasi-judicial Foreigner Tribunals and those convicted by judicial courts of visa violations.
