Y20 delegates participating yoga session in IIT, GHY

On February 6, first Y20 meeting under G20 held in Guwahati, 2023. Also G20 summit first meeting was held in Assam more than hundred delegates from different international countries visited the state along with guest countries. After the summit, Y20 delegates were captured performing Yoga in IIT, Guwahati. According to the sources, the summit will also provide an opportunity for students to voice their opinions to a global audience. Youth20 were aimed at reaching out to the youth and holding consultations with them for ideas “for a better tomorrow”.

Two arrested in connection to gang rape

In Assam's Dibrugarh, a minor girl was found unconscious with her hands and feet tied. She was found raped by some men. The girl is 14 years old. According to sources, two people have been arrested so far on the charge of gang rape of a minor. The accused of rape are Bhaijaan Ali and Safar Ali. The girl went missing since February 3, Police. Soon after the investigation the girl was found unconscious with hands and legs tied. The Police said, both the accused will be on trial under POSCO Act, section 376.

3,500 more arrested; Child marriage crackdown

The National Family Health Survey (NFHS) reports on child marriage that an average of 32 per cent of registered marriages in Assam are within the prohibited age. Also according to the 2019-21 survey, 11.7 percent of women aged 15-19 were already mothers or pregnant at the time of the survey. The Assam chief minister said they have identified more than 8,000 people who married minor girls. A video of a Rhino was circulated on social media where it was seen running after the people. The video was captured from Golaghat, Assam. Also the one-horned Rhino was seen chasing the people around and 2 officials was injured while trying to bring him in control. On Saturday, Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) (IGP L&O) Bhuyan updated the number of persons arrested in connection with the crime since yesterday morning till today morning. Bhuiyan said, “The statistics of arrests in child marriage cases have increased. As of this morning, the police have arrested 2,170 people across the state and it will increase." Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament presented the Union Budget 2023-24 on February 2. On Thursday, Chief Minister Himanata Biswa Sarma said that Union Budget 2023-24 will directly benefit Assam with an additional fund of Rs. 10,000 crore. Sarma also spoke about last year budget which was Rs 25,000 crore but ended up getting 29,000 crore.  This year Assam CM believes that the state will surely end up in Rs 35,000 crore against the budget amount 31,950 crore. Today early morning crackdown for child marriage started in the state, Assam and will continue for next three to four days.
