More than 1,500 job openings and 250 entrepreneurship opportunities were offered by government agencies and private companies to former defence personnel at a special job fair in Guwahati on Friday. The job fair for ex-servicemen at Narangi cantonment here was attended by over 1,000 retired personnel of army, navy and air force from Assam and nearby regions, seeking employment opportunities, a defence spokesperson said. "More than 55 companies participated in the job fair, offering over 1,500 jobs and 250 entrepreneurship opportunities," he said.

The Assam cabinet on Wednesday approved the Draft Assam Value Added Tax (Amendment) Rules aimed at monitoring the movement of taxable goods entering the state. The new rules will impose restrictions and conditions on the import of goods via road, rail, river, air, or post, public health and engineering minister Jayanta Malla Baruah said. The cabinet meeting, presided by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, also approved the draft Assam Urban Water Bodies (Preservation and Conservation) Rules, 2025 for preparation of district level schedule of public waterbodies.

Yaba tablets worth Rs 2 crore have been seized and one person has been apprehended in Assam's South Salmara district, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday. Acting on a tip-off, police seized 7,800 Yaba tablets from the residence of a person who was subsequently arrested. "Striking against the drug network! In a source-based operation carried out by @SSalmaraPolice, 7800 YABA tablets valued Rs 2cr were seized from a residence. One accused has been apprehended. A telecom infrastructure firm on Tuesday said it has begun a programme to screen possible cancer patients in Assam in association with the state government and Assam Cancer Care Foundation (ACCF). The programme has been launched under Indus Towers' flagship CSR initiative, with an objective to contribute to the fight against cancer and improve the quality of life for the residents of Assam, the company said in a statement.
