Atal Setu marks the start of “Sikkim – The Silk Route Drive,” with 17 supercars roaring through Rangpo

The high-energy ‘Sikkim – The Silk Route Drive’, an event designed to revive the historic trade route through a modern motoring experience, was officially flagged off on Thursday morning at the iconic Atal Setu Bridge in Rangpo. The rally, featuring 17 high-performance supercars, drew enthusiastic crowds as engines thundered across the newly inaugurated stretch, marking the beginning of a three-day journey across Sikkim’s breathtaking terrain.

The ceremonial flag-off was led by CS Rao, Additional Chief Secretary of the Government of Sikkim, who launched the drive in the presence of Hondala Gyaltsen and Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha, both APS to the Chief Minister. The event also saw participation from Rangpo Nagar Panchayat Councillor Pinku Kumar Prasad, SDM Rangpo Sujata Subba, senior officials from the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, representatives from various line departments, and local residents who gathered to witness the spectacle.

Organised as a self-funded and self-driven initiative by the Mumbai-based Super Car Route Group, the rally is a collaborative effort involving the Government of Sikkim and the Black Cat Division under the Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army. The three-day expedition aims to blend adventure with heritage by tracing routes that once linked communities across the Eastern Himalayas.

The convoy will cruise through key destinations in Sikkim, offering participants an immersive experience that combines adventure tourism, cultural exploration, and panoramic mountain landscapes. With its focus on promoting Sikkim as a premium destination for luxury motoring, the initiative underscores the state’s growing appeal among high-end travellers seeking unique automotive adventures.
