An automatic pop-up rain gun irrigation system was installed at the Sikkim Cricket Association Ground in Mining, Rangpo, by Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang as part of an effort to improve sports facilities. In addition to encouraging sustainable water usage, the Automatic Pop-up Rain Gun Irrigation project seeks to assist the development of professional cricket in the area. The chief guest at the ceremony was Justice Biswanath Sommader, the Chief Justice of the High Court of Sikkim. A friendly exhibition match with local players and dignitaries, including CM Tamang himself, took place after the ceremony as a symbolic act honoring the contribution of sport to promoting youth involvement and community spirit.
The recently built irrigation system requires no manual labor because it is completely automated and can distribute water uniformly over the land. This drastically cuts down on water waste while also guaranteeing ideal playing conditions all year long. CM Tamang emphasized the significance of this facility, saying it shows the state’s dedication to developing athletic talent and brings Sikkim’s sports facilities into line with national norms. The decision was praised by Sikkim Cricket Association officials as a significant step in the state’s efforts to professionalize cricket, which has witnessed an increase in young enthusiasm and involvement.
It is anticipated that the system will significantly increase ground maintenance effectiveness, which is essential for holding top-tier games.
