Assam’s Karbi Anglong Ginger Makes Historic GI-Tagged Export to London

In a significant export initiative, Assam’s Agriculture Minister Atul Bora officially launched the first-ever export of GI-tagged ginger from the Karbi Anglong district to London. This milestone, marked on Sunday at Krishi Bhawan in Guwahati, involved a consignment of 21.2 metric tons of premium fresh ginger sourced directly from local farmers. Minister Bora described this event as a historic moment for Assam’s agricultural sector, emphasizing its importance in showcasing the state’s high-quality agricultural products to the global market. He noted that this export signifies a growing international recognition of Assam’s agricultural offerings and represents the state’s initiative to expand its agricultural footprint abroad.

Bora articulated the government’s commitment to strengthening farmers’ incomes and enhancing value addition through improved global market linkages for Assam’s GI-tagged products. He acknowledged the collaboration of the Agriculture Department, APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority), and NextOn Foods Pvt. Ltd., who played a crucial role in facilitating this export venture alongside the local farmers.

The minister reaffirmed the state’s dedication to improving agricultural outputs, promoting quality enhancement, and ensuring that Assam’s farmers gain both recognition and economic opportunities in the international arena. Senior officials from the state agriculture department, as well as representatives from APEDA and NextOn Foods Pvt. Ltd., attended the flag-off event, underscoring the collective effort towards enhancing Assam’s position in the global agricultural market.
