On Sunday, 46 members of tribal militants laid down their arms after signing a peace deal with the government in Assam’s Sonitpur district.
The All Adivasi National Liberation Army (AANLA), formed in 2006, claims to fight for the rights of the tribal culture of plantation workers in Assam.
A peace agreement was signed with the government in September last year.
Former AANLA president D Nayak said they surrendered with the belief that the government would protect the rights of tribals in the tea estates and ensure their development in line with the peace accord signed last year.
