The Assam government is set to review a Special Investigation Team (SIT) report that has reportedly flagged a Pakistan-linked plot involving a Member of Parliament from the state. The SIT, constituted by the Assam Cabinet on February 17, 2025, was tasked with probing the alleged anti-India activities of Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and his associates.
According to sources, the SIT has uncovered startling details suggesting a broader conspiracy that could threaten national sovereignty. The probe has revealed the involvement of a British national married to an Indian MP, allegedly connected to Sheikh’s network. Further findings suggest that the Ministry of Interior of Pakistan may have facilitated the visit of the Assam MP to the country, raising serious concerns about cross-border interference.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said today that he would first personally review the SIT report before making it public. “I will receive the report after returning to Guwahati. I will go through it thoroughly. After that, the government will inform the people about the findings and the future course of action. This is a serious inquiry related to the nation’s security,” he stated.
The Assam Government confirmed that the SIT report will be placed before the State Cabinet for detailed examination. Once deliberated, the information gathered during the investigation will be shared with the public, outlining potential steps for action. The development has triggered widespread attention, given the high-profile nature of the individuals involved and the national security implications.
