Assam Rifles – USI Annual Seminar Held In New Delhi

The Assam Rifles, in association with the United Service Institution of India (USI), conducted the Assam Rifles – USI Annual Seminar at Major General Samir Sinha Auditorium, USI, New Delhi on 10 March 2026. The seminar was organised on the theme “Security Challenges to the North East: Assessment & Way Forward.”

The event was graced by Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai as the Chief Guest, who delivered the keynote address and shared his perspectives on the evolving security dynamics in the North Eastern Region. Senior officers of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, members of academia, policy practitioners and representatives from the media attended the seminar.

During the seminar, the Director General Assam Rifles, Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM and Vice Admiral Sanjay J Singh, SYSM, PVSM, AVSM, NM, PhD (Retd), Director of United Service Institution of India also delivered insightful remarks and highlighted several key agenda points related to the theme of the event. Their observations emphasised the importance of a comprehensive approach towards addressing the evolving security challenges in the North East.

The seminar provided a platform for meaningful deliberations on the region’s unique security environment shaped by its complex geography, diverse social fabric and extensive international borders. Experts noted that while the security situation in the region has improved considerably over the years due to sustained efforts of the security forces, civil administration and political leadership, emerging challenges continue to require constant review and coordinated responses.

Discussions during the seminar also focused on issues such as border management, regional instability in the eastern neighbourhood and the growing influence of information and social media in shaping the security landscape. The deliberations aimed to assess the current security environment and identify practical approaches for addressing emerging challenges in the region.
As the “Sentinels of the North East” and “Friends of the Hill People,” Assam Rifles continues to play a pivotal role in ensuring peace and stability through its responsibilities in border management, internal security and assistance to civil authorities. The seminar reaffirmed the importance of collaboration among security forces, policymakers and academic institutions in strengthening peace, stability and development in the North Eastern Region.

The discussions were constructive and forward-looking and are expected to contribute valuable perspectives towards addressing the evolving security challenges in the region.
