Assam Records Historic Voter Turnout; BJP and Congress Express Gratitude to the People

With polling formally concluding at 5 PM, Assam has witnessed a remarkable phase in its democratic journey. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has extended its profound gratitude to the people of Assam for their overwhelming participation in what it described as a historic electoral exercise.

The state recorded an impressive voter turnout of 84.42%, with over 2.50 crore voters casting their ballots. According to the BJP, this reflects the people’s strong faith in democratic values and their commitment to shaping the future of Assam.

The party also expressed special appreciation for young and first-time voters, whose enthusiastic participation signals the rise of a politically aware and responsible generation. It noted that such engagement strengthens the foundations of democracy.

A total of 31,890 polling stations were set up across the state, enabling voters to decide the fate of 722 candidates. Among them, 211 candidates belong to national parties, 116 to regional parties, 137 to registered unrecognized parties, and 258 are independent candidates. Notably, 60 women candidates participated, highlighting growing inclusivity in the electoral process.

The BJP further commended the Election Commission of India, polling personnel, and security forces for ensuring a peaceful, transparent, and efficient election.

The party stated that this massive turnout sends a strong message that the people of Assam are committed to democracy, stability, and development. As the BJP-led NDA seeks a third consecutive mandate, it described the turnout as a reflection of public trust in governance and leadership.

Meanwhile, Gaurav Gogoi, President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, also expressed gratitude to the people of Assam for turning out in large numbers.

In his statement, Gogoi said that the people have voted with hope for a “New Bor-Asom” and new leadership. He emphasized that it is now the responsibility of the Election Commission to ensure the safe custody of EVMs and conduct accurate vote counting on May 4.

He also thanked senior leaders of the Indian National Congress, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Jitendra Singh, along with election observers.

Gogoi further acknowledged alliance partners such as Akhil Gogoi, Lurinjyoti Gogoi, Suprakash Talukdar, Bibek Das, and Jhon Ingti Kathar. He also extended his appreciation to party leaders, workers, and candidates for their efforts.
