Assam Police have seized a major consignment of narcotics, including 50,000 Yaba tablets and heroin, from a vehicle in Amingaon under Kamrup district and arrested three persons from Manipur, officials said on August 1.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police intercepted a Tata Nexon bearing registration number AS 11-AA-6800 in Amingaon. The operation was led by Kalyan Kumar Pathak, Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquarters), Kamrup.
The arrested persons have been identified as Kh Tabish (24) and Thekcham Avinash Singh (41), both from Thoubal district, and Nongmaithem Biswajit (38) from Imphal West district.
During a detailed search of the vehicle, police recovered 50,000 Yaba tablets containing methamphetamine, weighing around 5 kg without packaging. The tablets were allegedly concealed in specially created secret compartments inside the vehicle.
Police also recovered five soap boxes containing heroin, weighing approximately 67.5 grams without packaging.
According to officials, the seized narcotics have an estimated street value of around Rs 12.5 crore, while the valuation by the CID has been put at approximately Rs 7.5 crore.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against the three accused, while further investigation is underway to establish the source and intended destination of the narcotics consignment.
The seizure is being viewed as a major success for Assam Police in its ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking and efforts to prevent the movement of narcotics into the Lower Assam districts.
