A private vehicle belonging to an Assam Police personnel was allegedly set on fire near the Upper Lampi Battalion Border Out Post in Boko, raising concerns along the sensitive Assam-Meghalaya border.
The vehicle, an Alto reportedly owned by Havildar Arbinda Roy of the 28th Battalion, was found completely gutted following a fire that broke out during the night.
According to police sources, the vehicle had been parked along the roadside near the battalion camp as the poor condition of the approach road made it difficult to drive the car inside the camp premises.
Police have launched an investigation to determine whether the vehicle was deliberately set ablaze or caught fire accidentally. Investigators are also examining the possibility of miscreants being involved, although the exact circumstances of the incident and the identity of those responsible remain unclear.
An FIR has been registered at the Lampi Border Police Outpost. Police are examining several aspects of the case, including where and when the vehicle was parked and what happened in the hours preceding the fire.
A forensic team from Guwahati has been dispatched to the site to collect evidence and determine the exact cause and manner of the fire.
Senior Assam Police officials, including Jan Kishore Gogoi, are also expected to visit the site and assess the situation.
The incident comes at a time when tensions and sensitivity along the Assam-Meghalaya border have increased following recent incidents in Shillong and Jorabat. The latest development has raised concerns about the possibility of renewed tension in the border areas.
