Assam Police have arrested more than 30 individuals linked to a high-profile trading scam that has rattled the state. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the arrests, while the police continue their search for prominent Assamese actress Sumi Bora, who remains at large. The investigation gained momentum after Bora’s cousin, Vishal Phukan (22), the prime accused in the scam, was apprehended. Phukan is accused of defrauding investors by promising a 30% return on stock market investments within 60 days, misappropriating crores of rupees in the process.
Authorities launched a manhunt for Bora on September 3, following a raid on her residence in Beltala and Phukan’s flat in Dibrugarh. Crucial evidence was seized during the raids, but Bora’s whereabouts remain unknown, with her phone switched off since Phukan’s arrest. Reports indicate that Phukan led a lavish lifestyle, allegedly financing Bora’s high-profile wedding in Rajasthan and booking luxury stays in Dubai. The investigation continues, with the police seizing electronic devices for further analysis as they work to trace Bora.
