Assam Police detain Bangladeshi infiltrators in Karimganj

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on October 19 that state police successfully apprehended a Bangladeshi national attempting illegal entry into the state. The individual, identified as Md. Arif, was promptly sent back across the border. Taking to social media, Chief Minister Sarma commended the vigilant efforts of the Assam Police, stating, “Our personnel are fully alert to thwart such infiltration attempts along the Indo-Bangladesh border.”

This incident is part of a larger trend of increased security measures at the border. Just weeks prior, on September 23, Assam Police detained four Bangladeshi infiltrators in Karimganj. The arrested individuals—Sohil Hawladar, Shah Alam, Sourab Hawladar, and Md Kawsar—were apprehended as part of the state’s ongoing efforts to bolster border security. Sarma further emphasized the importance of these operations, stating, “In yet another successful pushback operation against illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators, Assam Police managed to apprehend and send back individuals through the Karimganj border.”

The commitment of Assam’s security forces to monitor and maintain strict vigilance along the international border was evident once again on September 22, when police and the Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended two illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators in separate incidents.
