With the establishment of the Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test facility in Jagiroad, a scam targeting unemployed youths has emerged, where fraudulent actors promise jobs connected to the project. The Morigaon police have arrested several individuals involved and attached bank accounts containing approximately ₹25 lakh as ordered by the court. The scammers, including a lecturer named Saiqul Islam, lured victims by spreading false promises on social media and conducting fake training sessions, initially charging ₹5,000 and later demanding ₹20,000 to ₹30,000 for issuing provisional and final appointment letters. They even forged Tata Group letterheads to lend authenticity to their scheme. Investigators report that around 200 individuals were deceived. On January 3, under Section 107 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Chief Judicial Magistrate ordered the freezing of the fraudsters’ bank accounts, and three people have been arrested so far, with an ongoing investigation. This incident is not isolated; a previous case occurred last October, where a fake recruitment advertisement circulated, prompting complaints to Tata officials after misleading candidates about job openings. Police arrested another suspect, Abdul Samim, who was linked to a wider fraudulent network. Authorities advise job seekers to verify recruitment notices through official channels to prevent such scams.
