In Karimganj district, police reported Tuesday that they had apprehended a drug dealer and confiscated 1.5 lakh Yaba tablets, valued at an estimated Rs 45 crore on the black market. In a post on X, CM Sarma stated, “A truck from a neighboring state was intercepted, resulting in the recovery of 1.5 lakh YABA tablets weighing over 16kg. Drugs worth Rs. 45 crore were recovered in a source-backed anti-narcotics operation carried out by Sribhumi Police in Hathikhira area.” He continued, “Further investigation is underway and one person has been arrested in this regard.” In a previous operation, the Assam Police Special Task Force (STF) and the Cachar district police confiscated 125 grams of heroin and 60,000 Yaba tablets late on Saturday night in Silchar.
A combined team under the direction of STF Chief Dr. Partha Sarathi Mahanta carried out the operation on Silcoori Road. A man of Sonai in the Cachar district named Sahil Ahmed Laskar was arrested by the team for allegedly using a motorcycle to deliver the drugs. “We caught Sonai of Cachar district resident Sahil Ahmed Laskar in the act of smuggling drugs. 60,000 Yaba tablets and 125 grams of heroin were found and confiscated from his possession, according to Dr. Partha Sarathi Mahanta. According to STF Chief Mahanta, the drugs that were confiscated had a market value that is “estimated at around Rs 20 crore.”
