Assam MP Pradyut Bordoloi Switches to BJP in New Delhi

A day after resigning from the Congress party, Pradyut Bordoloi, the MP from Nagaon, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in New Delhi. His induction was marked by attendance from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia, and other BJP leaders. CM Sarma expressed expectations that BJP workers would support Bordoloi for the upcoming Assembly elections. He also mentioned that Nabajyoti Talukdar, who similarly left Congress, would join the BJP soon. Sarma commented on the self-respect of leaders, indicating that many were eager to move to the BJP, predicting further exits from Congress post-elections. Although he avoided confirming if Bordoloi would receive a ministerial position if elected, Bordoloi described his switch to the BJP as a challenging yet necessary decision, citing feelings of suffocation and humiliation within Congress. He expressed his approval of CM Sarma’s leadership while stating that his son, Prateek, who is a candidate for the Margherita Assembly seat, retains the freedom to make his own choices regarding his political future.
